Workshops and Class-Work

Workshop and class-work are very important part to becoming a successful in your study. The workshops and class-work are the foundation to your studies. These types of studying will allow you discuss and look into more depth than you would normally do when reading a book on the subject if you are dyslexic.

Being dyslexic means that you have to understand that reading can cause you trouble, and you have to look at other or the best way for you to study. And with workshops and class work, you will use other sensor to like listening and discussion to find out information on the subject.

What are the aims of a workshop:-

The aim is to research and to look into more depth. You will be guided into the subject and shown the best way to understand the topics for exam and coursework.

What are the aims for class work:-

Class work means the work that you will do in the class or workshops. This could mean presentations, case studies, reading, copying off a board, listening or discussions.

If you understand these two definitions, you can then understand the way to working.

Being dyslexic will mean that you will still find it difficult in class and workshops. Therefore, you need to be prepared for them.

Being prepared does not mean loads my work, but just being prepared. It could mean:-

  • Asking the tutor what will you be studying in the next workshop/class.
  • Reading up further in the books advised for you to read
  • Reading old notes
  • Doing your own research on the topic

Being prepared does not mean more work, so you have no time to relax. It mean, maybe reading a chapter in the car from a book you a studying or going through old notes while eating your breakfast or looking through notes when watching TV.

It means using you time wisely and using it effective.

The authors understanding of workshops as a dyslexic:-

Being a dyslexic means you looking at the world differently. Only you can understand that way of thinking. However, when you are in class it is and will be difficult for you. The teachers thinking that you may find the subject difficult because of your problems with reading and writing. You know if you could speak instead of writing your notes, you could get a grade A or B in the subject. So keep working and education does get better when you get to university or further education sixth form. Do not give up.

If you use the advice that this book gives and use it wisely, you will succeed if you stick in with your studies.

Workshops and class work in senior school means lots of:-

  • Writing from the Head-Projector’s
  • Copying from books
  • Copying from the black/white board
  • Reading books
  • Writing notes
  • Doing case studies
  • Going through old exam papers.

Most dyslexics do not have the skills and the understand on how to do these pieces of work. So you normally get frustrated and board in class because the teacher think that you can’t do the work and that then mean to the teacher that you don’t understand the topic that you are studying.

For a dyslexic these above are a difficult way to learn. And the way to understand you work is to do further work at home.

For example writing up notes from the board in your way of understanding.

Reading books is difficult for dyslexics. A good way for reading notes or reading books. Is to scan them onto a computer. And then splitting the paragraphs up for easier reading. With this technique it mean that you can then change the type of font and change the colour/size of the font for you to read.

This tip is good when doing English literature, when you have to read small text. With this technique you can then adopt the font and place your own notes around the page.

One way to get further understands and using you picture thinking is to watch video’s on the subject topic. This is one of the best way for a dyslexic to remember information.

So ask your teacher. 

Don’t just use videos to learn the topic, because the video’s are designed just to give you a general and little depth of the subject topics.
